Whether we are on a cruise or I am solo traveling I always want activities to be booked. I want to make sure I make the most out of my time while exploring new places.
Cruises- I think it is a little easier to make travel plans while cruising because the cruise ships usually offer their own excursions. The plus side to using the cruise ship excursions is that they guarantee the ship will not leave without you if the tour runs late. The negative side is these tours are usually more expensive, fill up fast and do not have as many options.
Sometimes we book excursions through the cruise ship. Especially when we are only in a port for a short time. We prefer to book with Viator because it is cheaper and they have more options.
Solo Trips – I love to travel on my own but I try to be safe while doing it. I think booking through Viator is a safer option rather than going sightseeing alone. Viator vets the companies they work with, but also I book group activities so I am not alone.
The Viator trips are also nice because they usually include the transportation to and from you pickup/drop-off locations. It is really easy to communicate in the app with the company you are booked with.
Below are some suggestions from activities I have done with Viator and would love to do again.
2 day trip from Lima, Peru
Drive a few hours to the beach city, Paracas. Once there, you will take a speed boat ride to see a Nazca line on a hill side and then see wild Penguins and Sea Lions on Ballestas Island.
Next drive to Haucachina to go on the craziest, funnest dune buggy ride ever and end the day literally sandboarding into the sunset
Once in Cusco, Machu Picchu is still a ways away but no worries when booking a full day tour. The day started early with a van ride to the bus station, then a bus to a train and then one final bus up to the entry. BUT it is all worth it!
This tour included upper and lower access with amazing views and of course we saw the LLAMAS :)
There is "the rainbow mountain" in Peru located at Vinicunca mountain but I went to the "other rainbow mountain" called Palccoyo. I was very happy with this decision:
*Remember to bring cash to pay the locals to take pictures with their llamas, alpacas and lambs
