Since I am a newer jumper I took the advise of other more experienced jumpers on what kind of gear I should get. I found my own container and reserve from an amazing girl I met at the SIS event. She mailed the container and reserve to Greenlight Skydiving gear so that I could have it properly inspected and get a riggers honest opinion of the gear. They helped me negotiate the price which I really appreciated. Greenlight also helped me find a used main canopy. I bought a Spectre 190 which is a 1:1 wing loading for me which is perfect for my level of experience. Spectres also have a good reputation for a reliable on heading opening. I bought a brand new Cyrpress 2 AAD.
I did my first jumps March 9th with my own gear! The feeling was amazing to know it’s mine! But when it came to packing ... that wasnt so fun! It took me a long time to pack with help, so during the week I practiced packing at home! I learned a new way of putting the main in the dbag which made it a lot easier. I feel more confident now in my packing abilities and I can't wait to be able to get more proficient at packing and faster as well.
My first jump of the day was an all girl jump! We did a two way linked exit which was successful into a two way round! Our third person was much lower than us. We tried to arch to catch up but it made us spin. We broke off, I went down to our low man. We docked and made a two way round, broke off, did a 360 turn and then re-docked! This was a fun jump that was a success!
The next jump of the day was a 4-way. The plan was a 3 way linked exit into a hybrid and then break off and re-dock into a 3 way round into a horny gorilla, we also had a camera flyer. The jump went kinda close to plan... the exit went well and we did accomplish the hybrid! We stayed together and made a 3-way round. When we counted to 3 for the horny gorilla, the other two people were able to grab each others legs but I couldn't get mine in there so Jason just held onto my chest strap so I went flopping all over the place haha. In the end it was a super fun crazy jump! These are my favorite jumps!!!
I am now at jump 82! I am hoping to get to jump 100 by the end of April!
Sammi and I have been best friends since 5th grade! Once I started jumping I immediately started talking about it with my best friend. She told me she wanted to jump for her 25th birthday which seemed soooo far away! Finally her birthday has come around and i took her to do her first tandem! She loved it!
I had such an amazing day sharing time at the DZ with my best friend! I can’t wait for her to jump again or even better get her license!
Congrats to my friend Jonathon who hit one of his goals for this year ... 200 jumps!!! Even more exciting is that he can now use a camera! On the right you can see his first jump with his camera!
We had some really awesome jumps this weekend. I was practicing chasing after groups doing the linked exit. I would drive out right after the linked group left the plan, I had to get small to lose altitude so I could level off with the group, even though I wasn’t able to make it to the round to make the dock, I was able to fly around them! If we weren't at break off altitude I wold have been able to dock with them... this is progress! haha
It also makes it easier on belly jumps when you have a suit that allows for a little more drag and control on your belly. I bought a RW suit this weekend (black and red)! RW is a skydiving discipline short for "relative work" which is what doing belly formations is all about ... being able to stay relative with other flyers. I am still getting used to it but I am looking forward To having a constant belly free fall rate and being more stable and having more control in the air!
