August 16th 2017 Mile High Skydiving
My mom and I took a girls trip to Denver, Colorado in the middle of September to go to one of my best friends wedding. The day after the wedding our flight wasn’t until late at night, so we had all day to kill. We spend hours searching for something to do and finally my mom said “you should go skydiving”. I thought, ya well I have always wanted to so why not ?
The wedding was Friday night, I drank wayyyyy to much and I had one of the worst hangovers of my life Saturday morning, but I was determined and way too excited to not go skydiving. Thankfully the weather wasn’t great so I got to lounge around the hanger for a while before my jump.
I was laying on the floor miserable dealing with my hangover but when they told us we were jumping in 10 minutes that all went away.
It was so nerve racking to put on the jump suit for the first time, that’s the moment it started to feel real. My mom went on the truck ride out to the plane with me, I think she was freaking out more than I was. Heart pounding I climbed into the plane, took my seat and fastened my seat belt. When we got half way up the camera guy pointed this out to me! I couldn’t believe how high we were and I started to get really nervous and have second thoughts.
When the time came to sit on my instructors lap (a little awkward...) I was ready to say I changed my mind…. then the door opened….. ohhhh myyy this was the scariest moment of my life…. the plane of a door opening while 12.5k feet above the ground is not normal (or wasn’t normal for me at the time ). We moved closer to the door and next thing I know we are out the door of the plane! It was the scariest and most amazing moment. After a few seconds I calmed down and really started enjoying free fall. It’s hard to describe the feeling of free fall. I smiled and waved at the camera flyer!
The instructor pulled the chute and we flung forward with the realization everything was fine and I just left a perfectly good airplane! As we spun our way to the ground I took in the scenery around me and tried to wrap my head around what i just did. I knew when I finally hit the ground I would jump again but I never thought I would want to jump solo!
