When I first started skydiving I was searching all over Facebook for groups to be in because I wanted to meet new people! One of the most interesting groups I found was sisters in skydiving. girls helping, supporting and encouraging other girls in this amazing sport.
This last weekend was an event called SIS in ArOZona (wizard of OZ theme). Although I didn't previously know a lot of girls in skydiving, I met some pretty awesome girls over the weekend! I was a little nervous as I was at a new dropzone and didn't know anyone but everyone was super friendly and helpful.
I spend all day Friday in the tunnel! I worked on back to sit positioning for my first 7 minute time slot and then later that day I had my own 15 minute block where I worked on sit flying! I was able to get into a sit position and hop up and down but couldn't hold a sit for too long but at least it's a start!
I bought a tent so that I could sleep at the DZ... the temperature at night was literally freezing but I stayed in my tent anyways. I packed lots of warm clothes, sleeping bags and blankets and actually slept pretty well in my tent. Its really convenient to sleep at the DZ rather than driving almost an hour back home each day.
My plan was to jump all day Saturday, but I woke up really sore from the tunnel and sleeping on the frozen ground. My first jump was awesome! I did a 3 way jump. Our 3 way exit worked into a 3 way round. We did 3 points:accordion, side body dock, 3 way round twice and then broke off and did a 360 turn and came back to a round!!!!!!! After this we even had extra time, we just held on in our round smiling for about a thousand feet.
My next Jump was out of the Skyvan which was my main goal.. I have been looking forward to the skyvan jump since I have started jumping!!! I didn't have anyone to jump with so I signed up solo free fly just to ensure I got on a skyvan load. On the way out to the plane I ran into two people also doing a free fly jump, they invited me to go with them. The exit went amazing, freefall went as planned but break off did not. The guy I was with must not have seen me and back tracked towards me causing both of us to pull lower than planned.. but lesson learned... don't try new things with new people. Luckily everyone was okay and it was a learning experience.
After the skyvan jump that ended up being super scary, I wanted to be done for the day, but I already signed up to do the DC-3 jump and I didn't want to miss my chance to do this jump. I joined a 6 way belly group! The exit was awesome! everyone lines up and holds the persons rig infront of you and run out the door single file! It was awesome! We made a 5 way round.
After that I called it a day, because I was super sore! That night we had the Wizard of Oz party! I am so glad I attended this event and made some new friends.
I am so glad I finally jumped at Skydive Arizona! I will definitely jump there again! I love the awesome planes and the accommodations they have to offer.
February 11th 2018 Skydive Phoenix
There are four types of skydiving licenses categories: A, B, C and D licenses.
A is the first license you get. As you progress you earn higher licenses. Currently I have my A license. I am working towards getting my B license which includes completing at least 50 skydives, canopy course and water training. I spent all day Sunday at the dropzone learning about canopy piloting and completing 5 hop and pop jumps to practice what we were learning about.
This course really put me out of my comfort zone while under canopy but it was so worth it. I learned so much during this course and can't wait to take another canopy course. I feel more comfortable now in my landing pattern and flaring my canopy.
Now that I have completed my canopy course, all I need to do is complete my water training so I can get my B license!
